Toyota's bringing a new hot hatch to the U.S., and it may rock 257 horsepowers.

Toyota will almost certainly be bringing a new hot hatch to the United States — we’re just not exactly sure what it’ll look like.

The brand hasn’t officially confirmed anything about a future performance compact, but thumbing through the Toyota website, there’s a placeholder for a “GR Hot Hatch” under the “Upcoming Vehicles” tab.

Investigating further, you’ll find a landing page that shows a Yaris-based performance hatchback. However, a message on the same page says we won’t be getting that vehicle, but a completely different version specifically for us.

The hot hatch will likely be a souped-up version of the Corolla, which would compete properly with offerings from pretty much every other brand. The Honda Civic, Hyundai Veloster and Volkswagen Golf have all had performance variants for years, now well-regarded in the performance hatchback community.
